
The Chairman of the Eastern Regional Poultry Farmers Association, Mr. Kwame Efa, has urged Ghanaians to prioritize locally produced poultry products over imported ones.
Speaking to the media, he encouraged Ghanaians to “chew good meat” and ditch inferior products.
Mr. Kwame Efa emphasized the need for farmers to rear more fowl to meet the nation’s demand, citing that Ghana consumes 400,000 tons of chicken annually.
Hon. Solomon Kusi Brako, MCE for Birim Central Municipality, expressed pride in the municipality’s involvement in the initiative, believing it will revitalize the poultry industry.
He commended stakeholders for their efforts in establishing the association.
His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is fully committed to transforming Ghana’s agribusiness, particularly the poultry industry, which has long faced a significant deficit.
Approximately 80% of poultry products are imported, which is not beneficial for the country.
Developing this sector will boost the poultry industry and increase the country’s revenue.
He urged farmers to work diligently to meet the nation’s needs.
Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, MP for Akyem Oda constituency noted that investing in the poultry sector will create employment and generate income for the economy.
He encouraged Ghanaians to venture into poultry farming to meet local demand, highlighting that most chickens consumed in Ghana are imported.
The Eastern Regional Director of Agriculture Hajia Habiba Yusif echoed the call for Ghanaians to consume locally produced products, citing the health benefits of avoiding imported chickens that are often injected with growth-promoting substances. She emphasized that supporting local poultry farmers will boost the economy and promote healthier eating habits.
Overall, the stakeholders are calling for a shift towards consuming Ghana-made products, particularly in the poultry sector, to stimulate economic growth and improve the nation’s health.
