The Leader of the Kajebi shrine in the Northern region and a known philanthropist, Naatia Salifu has called on government and security agencies to do everything possible and come out with acceptable report from investigations into the murder of seven Zongo youth by the police.
Some seven Zongo youth were allegedly killed when they were mistaken by the police for members of an eight-man armed robbery gang who had attacked a sprinter bus and shot dead a police officer at Ayirebikrom near Manso Nkwanta in the Amasie West District of the Region.
This had brewed tension in the area with pockets of clashes between the police and community members.
Meanwhile, Chief Naatia believes that although people and families are bitter about the unfortunate incident, their anger and bitterness can be assuaged by outcomes of the investigation.
He also said the committee set up by the president to look into the matter must quicken their work so as not to keep people in suspense for long.
“The more these families are kept too long away from the truth, the more their pain over the fact that the police branded their late children as armed robbers grew.”
He however appealed to the Zongo communities especially the youth to remain calm whist the murder of the seven seven Zongo youth is investigated.
Chief Naatia Salifu who is also the leader of the MDR Society in the Northern Region has condemned the “barbaric” means by which the Ghanaian police is dealing with civilians.
He said the recent relationship between the Ghana police and civilians need to be re-established in order to avoid the unnecessary police killings.
He also expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families over their loss and lauded government for the steps taken so far to address the situation and bring peace.
Chief Naatia said he is confident that government will ensure that credible investigation is carried out into the matter for peace to prevail.
