The race for the contest of the Assembly member position for the Yaabem North electoral Area in Agona Swedru heats up, as two aspiring members’ gears up for the position, following the decision by the incumbent Assembly member to step down.
The two, Mr. Isaac Abeka Bruce, a second hand clothes dealer and Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Ponku Mensah, a quanity surveyor a both described by members in the community as potential candidates.
According to the aspirants, poor sanitation, inaccessible road network, absent of streets lights and public place of convenience will remain their priority projects when voted into power.
Speaking to Ghananews.com. Mr. Abeka Bruce hinted that is aim of contesting for the position stems from his leadership qualities and the call on him by opinion leaders in the community to contest for the position.
Enthusiastic of winning the elections, he noted that he did a lot of consultations with the leaders in the community before taking the decision to contest the race.
On his part, Mr. Ponku Mensah who was also optimistic of winning the elections disclosed that though he has not yet been elected, he has already contributed his mite to the development of the area.
He was said to have used his own resources to construct a foot bridge over a drain which becomes difficult for the members of the area to cross anytime it rains.
He however decried the defacing of his posters by some unknown people.
Both aspirants called for depoliticizing of Assembly elections, as according to them, that turns to defeat the concept of the creation of local government.
