Rev. Anthony Lartey, the outgoing Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Asante Akyem Banka, in the Asante Akyem South District of the Ashanti Region, advises pastors to explore additional income sources beyond their ministerial work to avoid burdening church members financially.
According to the Pastor, it is essential for clergy members not to rely solely on their ministerial stipends but to explore additional sources of income to ensure their financial stability.
The Pastor highlighted that many clergy members face significant challenges when they retire from the ministry, often struggling to make ends meet.
He attributed this to the fact that some pastors rely heavily on their church stipends without developing other skills or income-generating activities.
To avoid this pitfall, the Pastor advised clergy members to be proactive and entrepreneurial, leveraging their skills and talents to secure their financial future.
Rev. Anthony Lartey emphasized that the work of God is indeed a noble calling, but it is also a challenging one.
He encouraged clergy members to work hard not only in their spiritual duties but also in developing other areas of their lives.
By doing so, they can ensure that they are able to provide for themselves and their families, even after retirement.
He also urged church members to support their pastors in their ministry.
He recognized that the work of God is a difficult one, and that pastors need the support and encouragement of their congregation to carry out their duties effectively.
The Pastor also cautioned church members against comparing their pastors, recognizing that each individual has their unique strengths, weaknesses, and lifestyle.
He encouraged members to appreciate and respect their pastors for who they are and the work they do, rather than making comparisons that can be hurtful and divisive.
Mr Simone Agyemang, NPP Youth Organizer for Asante Akyem South constituency called on everyone to treat their leaders with reverence and respect, enabling them to channel God’s blessings and guidance to the people.
