The recent selection of the Members of the Council of State to advice the president, which was hitherto by appointment by the president is said to may have adverse effect on the smooth administration of the Mahama government, as some of the members may have different political ideologies, and may oppose most of his proposals.
The minister in charge of the Agona Swedru branch of the Samaria Miracle Church, Rev. Johnson Dzeameshie who shared the sentiment in an interview with GhanaNewsOnline.com called for the old status quo where such members are appointed by the president to be maintained, rather than elected. He expressed the fear that if elected, some people who do not have the “gift of wisdom” could influence the electorates to acquire such a delicate position of advising the president, to the detriment of those “born with the gift of wisdom”.
He however suggested that the selection of Members of Council of State is not an ordinary position that should be joked with, and must therefore be based on appointment, and not selection, so as not to allow people to use their financial resources to influence the public to infiltrate into the position.
