A personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, Recruit Fireman Twum Terance has warned the public to desist from siting structures such as kiosks and containers on water hydrants created by the Ghana Water Company for use by the Fire Service in case of fire outbreak.
According to him, the development has and continues to remain a major worry to the Ghana National Fire Service, as water tenders have to travel back to base to refill in instances of fire outbreaks, before attending to the fire, a situation he said often leaves the fire to do more damage.
Recruit Fireman Twum Terance expressed the concern when he addressed the Chiefs and people of Gomoa Akropong during the celebration of their Annual Akwambo festival.
A resident of the town, Fireman Twum Terance noted that the practice has become a common norm among most Ghanaians, without recourse to its repercussions in case of a fire outbreak.
He later appealed to the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for the area Benjamin Kojo Otoo and Naana Eyiah Quansah to use their offices to ensure that another fire station is located in Gomoa Central to ease the tension on the only station at Agona Swedru which currently serve both areas.
