The Omanbaatan of Gomoa Benso, Nana Ayera Omansu III has mounted personal manhunt for a soldier who has swindled to him to a tune of GH 1,5O0.00 Cedis.
According to the Chief, he first met the said soldier, Isaac Appiah Kubi on 17th of Nov. 2017 at a funeral at Beposo near Akim-Oda in the Eastern Region where he was introduced to him, Nana Omansu by his elder brother as his son.
Nana Omansu who narrated his ordeal to this reporter said the soldier; Isaac Appiah Kubi who claims to be a driver in the Ghana Armed Forces demanded his phone number, which he obliged, as an uncle.
According to Nana Omansu, few days after that he travelled to Accra and on his way back home he received a call from the said soldier who asked him whether he has a son who is of age, and that he the Chief should send that son’s mobile number to him so as to discuss an employment opportunity.
According to Nana Omansu, not suspecting any foul play, he called his son, one Yaw Mensah who is an auto mechanic in Accra and informed him of the message and later gave his number to the soldier.
He said in some few minutes, his son called him and told him of a travelling opportunity to Dubai which the said soldier Isaac Appiah Kubi has promised to offer him, because of the links he has, as a military officer.
The Chief said from that very moment, he received persistent phone calls from the soldier, demanding that he pays GH 500.00 Cedis for initial preparation of the travel documents through mobile money, which he did on that very day.
He said after confirming receiving the money, the soldier called him again the following morning and asked him to part with another GH 1,000.00 Cedis for acquisition of passport, as according to him, the journey is supposed to be embarked upon in less than two weeks before the Christmas period.
The Chief said he became worried about the persistent demands by the soldier, but was compelled to go and borrow the money from a source with interest and sent it to him through mobile money to enable his son embark on the journey on the stipulated day.
He said the third day, the soldier again called him and demand another GH 2,000.00 Cedis under the guise of using it to acquire a Visa for his son, of which he told the soldier that he cannot afford to pay.
He said the soldier, Isaac Appiah Kubi then told him that he would take charge of that amount himself.
Nana Omansu hinted that ever since that time, the soldier has refused to pick his call or any unknown number that he used to call him.
He hinted that many people have attempted to call the soldier but he has refused to pick all those calls.
According to the Chief, he later learnt that the soldier, Isaac Appiah Kubi has defrauded another family member GH 1,000.00 Cedis under a similar pretext.
All attempts to get the said soldier by this reporter has proved futile, as he has refused to pick any of his calls
