The HIV/AIDS focal person for Birim Central Municipality in the Eastern Region, Jesus Alodina Abolunga, has urged the public to end the stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS.
Speaking to the media on World AIDS Day, he noted that new HIV cases rose in 2024, with over 15,000 infections nation wide and about 12,000 deaths—many of them attributable to stigma.
He stressed that Ghana’s goal to eliminate the virus by 2030 cannot be achieved by the Ghana AIDS Commission alone and called for collective effort.
Abalunga also advised pastors not to isolate HIV patients but to encourage them to seek treatment at health facilities.
Mrs. Frema Hannah Yeboah, SHS and Private School Coordinator, added that pointing fingers at HIV patients is illegal and can result in jail time, and she encouraged everyone to support those living with the virus and to prevent further transmission.
