…Beneficiaries Receive Fridges, Fufu-Making Machines and Financial Support
The Suaman District Assembly has extended critical livelihood support to Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs) as part of its commitment to improving their economic independence and overall well-being.
At a brief ceremony held at the Dadieso–Enchi Station on Thursday, November 20, 2025, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Obour Vasco, presented beneficiaries with items including fridges, fufu-pounding machines, and direct financial assistance.
The initiative forms part of the Disability Fund under the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), which mandates assemblies to invest in the empowerment of PWDs through skills training, business support, assistive devices and financial aid.
Hon. Obour Vasco said the Assembly’s approach is to equip beneficiaries with tools that will help them start or expand small businesses, generate income and become more self-reliant. According to him, supporting PWDs in income-generating ventures is one of the most sustainable ways to alleviate poverty within the disability community.
He explained that the items, particularly the fridges and fufu-making machines, will enable recipients to venture into trades such as cold-store operations, food processing and other small-scale enterprises that can generate daily income for their families.
“These items are not just donations; they are economic tools. Once beneficiaries put them to good use, they will be able to support themselves and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
The DCE further noted that the Assembly remains committed to ensuring consistency in its support programmes for PWDs. He assured that such distributions will continue frequently as new funds are allocated, stressing the Assembly’s determination to improve the living standards of vulnerable groups across the district.
“Every quarter, as the Disability Fund is released, we will continue to identify needs and provide the necessary support. Our goal is to see persons with disabilities empowered, working and living dignified lives,” he added.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Assembly, describing the intervention as timely and life-changing. Many said the support would help them avoid over-dependence on relatives and give them a more stable source of income.
The distribution ceremony reaffirmed the Suaman District Assembly’s resolve to promote inclusive development and ensure that no member of the district is left behind.
