The founder and Chief Executive Officer of Adehye Special Home for children with autism, a condition that affects the intellectual ability and movement of the person affected, Mrs. Larbi Kwapong has advised parents of children with autism to treat them with special care because their condition demands such care.
A mother of a child with autism herself, Mrs. Larbi Kwapong noted that though it is difficult to handle such children, she however stated that such children have special abilities that if handled well, will expose them to their talents.
She debunked the notion held by some that such children are spirits beings, noting that it is a condition that can affects any child as a result of numerous pregnancy related complications, irrespective of the background of the parents.
She further allayed the fear that the condition is hereditary, pointing out that no studies has proven that.
Her outfit, Adehye Special Home for children with autism located at Gomoa Akropong in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region currently has over ten of such children under its care, taking them through early intervention, care and support, and is planning to establish a larger centre that will serve the entire Gomoa area and its environs.
However, the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Larbi Kwapong has appealed benevolent organizations and individuals to support her to cater for children with autism.
