Concerned Staff from the Finance Office of UEW, who visited Mr. Bruno Chirani have debunked media publication circulating on some mainstream and social media platforms suggesting that their visit was to beg him to withdraw his lawsuit against the Officers and the University.
The said publications also suggested that the officials visited Mr. Chirani with a promise to reinstate him to his former position as the Ag. Finance Officer on the orders of the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar of the University.
In a Press Release issued by the Concerned Staff from the Finance Office of UEW, they indicated that they were taken by surprise at the information being circulated.
The Release which was signed by its Convenor, Emmanuel Botwe stated that the misinformation, falsehood and the palpable attempt by some self-seeking individuals to deceive members of the public for their self-serving interest in the media cannot be countenanced.
The staff however set the records straight by stating that, “we went to visit Mr. Bruno Chirani on own accord as Concerned Staff of the Finance Office who are worried about the continual absence of our former boss from work for a considerable time.”
They said, they did not at any point in their interaction with Mr. Bruno Chirani promise him reinstatement to his former position as Ag. Finance Officer, should he withdraw his lawsuit from the Winneba High Court.
“For emphasis, the appointment of the Finance Officer is the exclusive preserve of the University’s Governing Council and once Council already had one in office, there was certainly no grounds for us to overturn the decision of our employer. That we sought to find out why he had not been coming to work ever since he filed a lawsuit at the Winneba High Court and petitioned the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Auditor-General over some financial issues in UEW.”
The Concerned Staff also mentioned that they had fruitful interactions with Mr. Chirani and advised him to return to his post as Deputy Finance Officer in charge of the Institute for Educational Research and Innovative Studies (IERIS) since the consequence of staying at home could be fatal if he failed to report to work within ten (10) days clause, adding that “we also advised Mr. Chirani to withdraw the case and rather submit his grievance to the University Governing Council for amicable resolution given that he is also a member of the newly inaugurated Council.”
They also stated that they advised Mr. Chirani to be mindful of his professional ethics as an Accountant.
The group however urged the public to be wary of the information they receive on UEW issues on mainstream and social media, saying that there are unscrupulous people out there who want to make political gains out of UEW issues to achieve their selfish personal interests.
