Claims by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, John Dumelo that the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) is still under lock and key, hence was urging Presidnt Akufo-Addo to open the facility has been described as complete “falsehood.”
It would be recall that John Dumelo, in some media publications claimed the UGMC is not working.
He went ahead and posted on his Twitter handle that the over 600 beds should not be lying idle.
Meanwhile, details from the Management of UGMS proved otherwise.
This paper has established during a visit to the facility that the University of Ghana Medical Centre has since July 2019 been opened.
Although the whole project is expected to be fully completed by the end of March next year, 2021, the out-patient Department (OPD), the Administration Unit, Dermatology Unit, Ophthalmology Unit, ENT, Laboratory and Pharmacy services with Laboratory and Pharmacy services are operational.
The facility is also admitting patients with critical and emergency cases.
Meanwhile, management of the Center expressed shock at John Dumelo who is seeking to become the MP for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency for failing to verify his information before making such unfounded and false claims.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Center, John Dumelo could have contacted the management if he was in doubt about the operations of the center.
She noted that the Center has even received deliveries and accepting referrals for complicated cases.
“The Center is working, it had been opened since July 2018, and so if anybody says he was the one who advised the President to open the facility within these few days, that person is not telling the truth. In any case John Dumelo stays in this constituency, he could have come to the facility and find things out for himself,” she said.
