The Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim in the West Akim Municipality, Eastern Region, Hon Owen Kwame Frimpong, has broken ground for the construction of a FIFA-approved Astroturf for his constituents.
This fulfills a promise he made to the people.
The facility will boast a standard pitch, changing rooms, and seating for spectators.
The MP, speaking to the media during the sod-cutting ceremony, stated that the youth are dear to his heart and urged the contractor to employ artisans from the constituency to work on the project.
He promised that during his term as MP, he would use local labor for all projects to reduce unemployment in the area.
The pitch, which will be one of its kind in the country, will be a standard facility with changing rooms and a seating area, unlike previous ones that were prone to damage.
The MP called on the people to take good care of the facility once it’s completed.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower West Akim Municipality Mrs. Paulina Akabila praised the MP, saying that he, like His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, fulfills his promises to the people.
She noted that the MP’s promise to construct the Astroturf was made during the campaign period and that he is now following through.
She expressed optimism that the facility would produce great players who would go on to play professionally abroad.
The MP, who is a footballer himself, has promised to support footballers in the municipality to achieve their goals.
The Chief of Akyem Asamankese, Osaberima Adu Darko III, called on the contractor to do a good job and advised him to use the labor laws in paying workers.
He also suggested that the MP install CCTV cameras around the pitch to monitor activities once the construction is completed.
The Chief and others urged the people to take good care of the facility once it’s finished.
