One hundred and twenty-eight Persons Living with Disability (PWDs) in the Asene Manso Akroso District have received support from the District Assembly Chief Executive.
The items distributed included deep freezers, cocoa spraying machines, fufu pounding machines, hair dryers, sewing machines, popcorn machines and cash amounts.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Eric Ahinakwa, in his address during the presentation ceremony, stated that disability does not mean one cannot work.
According to him, H.E. John Dramani Mahama has increased the disability fund from 3% to 5%, and he commended the President for thinking about persons with physical challenges.
He urged the beneficiaries to work hard so that they can benefit from the support given to them.
“In the olden days, you would see persons with disabilities on the streets begging for money, but now you can’t see them on the streets in Asene Manso Akroso,” the DCE noted.
“Some people have legs but have turned themselves into thieves, using all means to steal and extort money from people and the state,” he added.
He encouraged them to continue to keep themselves well as they have been doing.
The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the President and the DCE for the items given to them and promised to put them to good use.
They said the support would help them become self-reliant and improve their livelihoods.
