The Minister of Communication, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has advised the general public, especially children not to accept friends request from the strangers or share any naked pictures or personal vital information to strangers online.
The Lawmaker revealed that, there are dangers attached to the use of internet and therefore, it is important for school children to know in other to guide themselves against it.
She pointed that “Even when they are your friends, be careful the kind of information you give them. When you are teaching your parents, tell them that they need to protect their passwords”.
According to MP for Ablekuma west Constituency, uses technology devises these days even than their parents, hence the need to educate them on dangers associated with internet so that, they would also educate their parents and friends.
Mrs. Ursula Owusu, Communication Minister who made the observation during Africa Safer Internet Day Celebration held at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church Hall, Dansoman in Accra said, all kinds of information can be accessed online and therefore, it is the responsibility of the user to ensure that he or she select the right information in other not to fall into danger.
She therefore tasked the Teachers on the use of internet to negatively influence students during learning period at school. “The use of the internet or social media in classrooms can negatively influence the children, hence can cause them the children to abuse the use of the internet as well as social media”, she added.
The Minister however, used the ocassion to urge the children to exercise internet safety at all times to prevent them from landing into a social media danger.
At the occasion, the selected young Adult from various schools were engaged in a panel discussion to share their experiences of internet use and safety protection.
The celebration brought together about thousand students, the Deputy Country Representative of UNICEF Mr. Fiachra McAsey, the National Cyber Security staff,
the Municipal Chief Executive of Ablekuma West Mr. George Bray, The media , Traditional Leaders, Parents among others.
