The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo Addo, last week expressed her satisfaction over the progress of work being undertaken at new Mother and Baby Unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
The Unit which is currently under construction was funded by the Rebecca Foundation with support from many other institutions as well as individuals.
Her visit to the construction grounds revealed that 70 per cent of project had been completed and expected to increase within few weeks
The First Lady, Mrs Akufo-Addo commended the project contractor, Africa Buildings Partners, for the amount of work done so far, expressing confidence in the rate at which the work is progressing.
The First Lady thanked all individuals and institutions for their support and contributions towards the project and appealed for more support adding that “It hasn’t been done yet, so, keep it coming, keep the cheques coming, we need more to finish it and there is more work to be done,”
She again noted that since quality healthcare for all is a major priority on governments agenda, government could not do everything since all the hospitals in the country are in need. She said: “Let us continue to support and contribute in whatever ways we can to ensure that quality healthcare is realized in Ghana.”
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, who was part of the project inspection team, presented a cheque of GH¢120,000 to the First Lady on behalf of the Regional Co-ordinating Council and the various Metropolitan, Municipal & District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region as their contribution towards the construction of the health facility.
He commended the First Lady for her efforts towards quality health care in the country.
