
The Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira East, Hon. Emelia Ankomah (ESQ.) has urged duty bearers within her constituency to focus on delivering excellent services to the citizenry. She made the call during a working visit to some governmental agencies within her constituency on Monday, 17th February, 2025.
The visit, the first of its kind since her decisive victory in the 2024 elections, took her to the Department of Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA), the Ghana Fire Service Department, Ghana Highway Authority, NADMO, NCCE, Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), the National Ambulance Service and the Department of Labour.
At the Fire Service Department, Hon. Emelia Ankomah said the visit was in fulfilment of her pledge to them during her visits there as the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the 2024 elections where she promised the construction of a new office complex which she began as a Municipal Chief Executive and is currently 60% completed, will be fully completed and assured them that the fire tender which has seen no servicing in the last eight (8) years should be assessed as a matter of urgency to enable it to undergo the needed servicing. She promised to liaise with the National Headquarters to ensure that all the issues confronting the Department in the constituency are promptly addressed.
The commanding officer thanked Hon. Emelia Ankomah for the visit especially for her presentation of a TV set and mattresses to the department sometime last year before the elections and said that was evidence of her full commitment to the welfare of the staff and the department in general.
At the National Ambulance Department, the officer in charge acknowledged Hon. Emelia Ankomah’s role in the construction of 10 CHPS Compounds has gone a long way to help in the discharge of their duties.
He, however, lamented about the poor state of the road network in the constituency, which is hampering the effective delivery of emergency medical services and requested mini oxygen cylinders for use during emergencies.
Hon. Emelia Ankomah commended them for their good efforts in the midst of so many challenges and said she would make contact with the Ghana Health Service to see how some of the pressing
challenges could be immediately addressed.
At the DVLA, the Municipal Director pleaded with the Hon. Member to help facilitate the construction of a wall for the premises to ensure the security and safety of property, to which the Hon. Member guaranteed them her support in that regard. At NADMO, the staff mentioned the unavailability of a vehicle to aid in their operations and said the agency had not received any relief items for distribution in the event of a disaster for the past six years and pleaded with the Hon. Member of Parliament for her support to which she pledged to do all in her power to ensure the department is well resourced to enable them effectively deliver their services.
Next was the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) where the staff were highly elated with Hon. Emelia Ankomah’s visit as that had never happened.
They requested for her to support the agency to effectively discharge their duties in providing civic education to the citizenry to which Hon. Emelia Ankomah pledged her readiness to ever support their operations.
At the Ghana Enterprises Agency, Hon. Ankomah commended them for their efforts at giving technical and vocational training to young persons and said the government of H.E John Dramani Mahama would continue to invest in such agencies to ensure that young persons,, particularly those living with disabilities,s, are equipped with relevant skills to make them economically self-reliant.
Last but not least visit the Labour Office where Hon. Ankomah assured them of her continued support to make the office vibrant and encouraged them to never relent at reaching out to her office should they have need for anything that would go to support the efficient delivery of their services for the people, particularly the youth of Upper Denkyira East.
Hon. Emelia Ankomah also visited some churches in the constituency to express her gratitude to God for His protection and for seeing her through the elections and commended the churches for the good role they continue to play in the lives of citizens and towards the development of local communities.
She recounted the crucial roles that churches and other faith-based organizations continue to play in the areas of health and education and said her office shall remain open to all with creative and innovative ideas that will aid in the development of Upper Denkyira East Constituency irrespective of religious background or affiliation.
Hon. Emelia Ankomah concluded her tour with a visit to all six communities in the Pokukrom the electoral area where members and elders of the communities couldn’t hide their joy at the Honorable Member’s visit in such a relatively short time since being sworn in.
To many, Hon. Emelia Ankomah has demonstrated clearly that the welfare of the people and operations of government agencies within her constituency are all vital to her and she continues to assure them of her unfettered resolve to work hard to bring the necessary development to the Upper Denkyira East Constituency.
