The District Chief Executive of Asene Manso Akroso District in the Eastern Region, Hon. Eric Ahinakwa, has called on investors to put money into agriculture so that the nation can have more food for its people and surplus for export, thereby generating additional revenue.
Speaking at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration, the DCE said many think farming is only for the uneducated, but that is not true.
When done properly, farming is a lucrative venture that can increase incomes for individuals and the country, promote food nutrition, drive sustainable growth, create jobs, and boost local economic development.
He urged residents to view farming as a viable career because it can be profitable, and he encouraged farmers to scale up production to earn more.
The Board Director of Ghana Incentive Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Lending, Mrs. Tina Effa Boadi described agriculture as not only the backbone of Asene Manso Akroso District but also its identity and heritage for future generations.
She commended the farmers for their hard work and urged them to continue their good work for the benefit of Ghana and the district.
According to Mrs. Boadi, the district is blessed with fertile land and hard‑working people, but they must adopt technology and climate‑smart practices, improve extension services, support youth involvement in agriculture, and empower women farmers who are the backbone of rural communities.
She added that agriculture is not a “poor man’s job” but a noble profession, and that the nation’s future lies in the hands of its farmers.
Mrs. Boadi also promised financial support for farmers, inviting anyone in need to contact her office.
Nana, who was honoured as the Best Farmer of Asene Manso Akroso District, said that farming does not require formal education; it is a respectable job that puts food on the table and generates income.
He encouraged everyone to take up farming and called on the government to provide machinery and drill boreholes to aid farmers in their work.
