The Director of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Owusu Kyereme’s handling of domestic issue against husbands especially, and making them suspects has been called to question following the many petitions under investigation by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB).
Several petitions have been filed against her at the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) all pointing to her questionable conduct.
Petitioners point to how she frustrate husbands and fathers who appear before her outfit, with matrimonial cases with their wives.
ACP Owusu Kyeremeh conducts have become an albatross on the neck of PPBS which is now faced with the responsibility of investigating all the cases brought before it by petitioners.
One of such petitions is a recent one filed against ACP Owusu Kyeremeh, alleged unfair treatment, bias and improper interference in the handling of a domestic violence complaint involving a couple currently engaged in divorce proceedings.
The petitions, submitted by lawyers acting for the complainants, accuse the senior police officer of using her position to influence the handling of criminal complaints arising from a troubled matrimonial relationship.
According to the lawyers, their client is facing what they describe as “blatant discrimination, unfairness, bias, injustice and malicious prosecution” at the hands of the DOVVSU Director.
The lawyers further claim that ACP Owusu Kyeremeh does call for the discontinuation of cases brought against wives, whilst helping the wives rather pursue their husbands with criminal charges, whilst most of the cases brought before her are yet to receive action.
Lawyers of these petitioners further alleges that the DOVVSU Director’s handling of such matters has raised concerns about impartiality.
The petitioners are is calling on the police administration to examine the conduct of ACP Owusu Kyeremeh and take appropriate disciplinary action if wrongdoing is established.
The case raises broader questions about the handling of domestic violence complaints where the parties are simultaneously involved in divorce proceedings, particularly where competing criminal allegations emerge during matrimonial disputes.
This is one of the several petitions filed by different people against the DOVVSU Director which exposes her character and her handling of divorce cases brought to her office.
