Having peacefully and fruitfully elected their new national executives into office, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is shifting all attention to their Parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.
It was a colourful and historic scene at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi over the weekend when NPP delegates gathered to elect their national executives to steer affairs of their beloved party for the next four years.
John Boadu was elected National Chairman with the 1st Vice Chairperson position going to Kojo Fosu Boadu alias “Bamba”. Lawyer Henry Nana Boakye was elected 2nd Vice, Nana Akomea – 3rd Vice, Lawyer Justin K. Frimpong – General Secretary, Nii Kwarrwi Titus Glover – National Organiser and Alfred K. Thompson – National Treasurer.
The rest of the newly elected executives are Abanga Fuseni – National Youth Organizer, Mavis Hawa Koomson – Women’s Organiser, Ali Suraj – Nasara Cordinator and Dennis Miracle Aboagye – Communication Director.
Now, the grounds are being prepared for the much awaited primaries in the 276 constituencies in the country.
As such, party members who have high hopes to contest for supremacy have started declaring their intentions and Asante Akim North Constituency is no exception.
From all indications, delegates and the people of Asante Akim North are ready to welcome Honourable Kwadwo Baah Agyemang affectionately called “KBA” to the throne for the second time.
The experienced and hardworking former National Sports Authority Boss contested and won the Asante Akim North seat for NPP from 2012 – 2016 after Lawyer Anyimadu Antwi had succeeded the late Honourable Kwadwo Baah Wiredu from 2008 – 2012.
In their last Parliamentary primaries for the 2024 general elections, Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang contested among four aspirants and pulled 103 votes to finish third after Lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi (226), Dr. S.K Frimpong (160). Stephen Obeng Saka and Kwasi Kwarteng followed him with 67 and 12 votes respectively.
Judging from his commitment, loyalty and the tremendous work “KBA” has done for NPP and the people of Asante Akim North whose incumbent MP, Hon. O.K Frimpong is having legal issues outside the country following his arrest in The Netherlands a couple of months ago, it is certainly the delegates will hand over power to him again.
As it stands now, Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang will have Dr. S.K Frimpong to contend with though it is most likely other aspirants will join the race.
But whoever pops up as the competition progresses, Hon. KBA who has acquired enough experience in Journalism over the years with immense achievements in his political career has been tipped to lead his people to the dream land to continue his philanthropic and developmental ambitions for Asante Akim North.
