Accra has surpassed one million Bolt Send deliveries in 2026, with over 1.2 million deliveries recorded across the city so far this year,, highlighting the scale at which people are using same-day, point-to-point delivery to move items around the capital.
Bolt Send is currently available across five cities (Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Koforidua and HO) in Ghana, with activity nationally remaining broadly stable between January and July 2026. The data points to an established need for simple, on-demand ways to move individual items across cities without waiting for a scheduled parcel service. Bolt Send deliveries in Ghana travel an average distance of approximately 10.6 kilometres, while couriers using the service have an average rating of 4.82 out of 5.
Analysis of activity across the five cities found that Bolt Send is most commonly used on-demand delivery for food pickup and delivery, groceries, clothing and toletories.
People also use on-demand delivery to send important documents , move smaller inventory, or deliver a last-minute gift. Small merchants selling through Instagram and WhatsApp also use it to fulfil individual orders without needing a warehouse, carrier contract or minimum shipping volume.
The local trend points to a wider gap between traditional parcel delivery and the everyday errand. Traditional delivery networks work well for parcels that can arrive the next day or later. They are less practical for one-off jobs where a single item needs to cross the city quickly. Until recently, people usually had to make the trip themselves, ask someone for a favour or abandon the task altogether.
This activity comes as Ghana’s wider commerce ecosystem becomes increasingly digital. The U.S. International Trade Administration notes that e-commerce is growing in Ghana, with consumers increasingly buying products including clothing, electronics, health and beauty items, alongside food, online. Ghana is also developing its first National E-Commerce Strategy, aimed in part at helping micro, small and medium-sized businesses participate more effectively in digital trade.
As more buying and selling moves online, convenient ways of getting individual purchases from seller to customer are becoming an increasingly important part of the wider ecosystem
“An errand can take an hour even when the item itself is small. For someone managing a busy day, or a small business where every pair of hands matter, that can mean putting everything else on hold,” said Teddy-Appa - Dankyi, Senior General Manager, West Africa, Bolt. “Giving people a practical way to take care of those tasks can free up time for the things that genuinely need their attention.”
Accra dominates Ghana's same-day delivery activity
City-level data reveals significant differences in how Bolt Send is being used across Ghana.
The concentration in Accra highlights the opportunity to better understand how people and businesses in Ghana's largest urban centre are using point-to-point delivery as part of their everyday routines.
For Accra’s growing community of small businesses and social sellers, the sale increasingly happens online, but the product still has to reach the customer. Sellers operating through channels such as WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook may not have their own delivery fleet or formal courier arrangements, creating a need for flexible point-to-point delivery that can move individual orders as they come in.
Bolt Send provides a flexible option for these businesses to move individual orders as they come in, without requiring them to maintain a dedicated delivery operation. Bolt Send shows how the model works in practice. Senders enter a destination, see the price and estimated arrival time upfront, and track the item in real time. There are no labels to print, depots to visit or collection windows to arrange, while recipient tracking and verified handovers help reduce uncertainty at the door.
The growth in activity points to a wider change in how people handle small, urgent tasks. An everyday errand that once meant a trip across the city can now be arranged in a few taps.
