Hon. Denis Obeng Agyei, former General Secretary of the Ghana Association of Assembly Members, is advocating for the government to establish an Electoral Area Common Fund for assembly members.
This fund would enable them to undertake developmental projects in their electoral areas.
Hon. Denis Obeng Agyei emphasized that when assembly members are not on good terms with their MPs or MMDCEs, their electoral areas often suffer, being denied essential projects.
He commended the president for promising to provide assembly members with an allowance, acknowledging that their efforts have yielded results.
However, Agyei urged the government to prioritize elected assembly members over government appointees when distributing the allowance.
He argued that assembly members have more responsibilities in their electoral areas and require greater support.
Interestingly,Hon Denis Agyei’s proposal is not an isolated one.
