Attack On Obuasi Youth; Residents Accuse ”Ebusuapanyin” Of Shielding Perpetrators

What was meant to be a celebration turned bloody when the people of Gomoa Obuasi who were going on trotting as part of their Annual Akwambo festival were blocked and attacked by some irate youth of Gomoa Achiase upon reaching the town.

The incidents which occurred last week without any provocation, according to eye witness accounts, resulted in the hospitalization of some members of the celebrants.

Though the acts by the youth of Achiase was condemned by many, including the Chief of Gomoa Obuasi Nana Aforesian, a member of the Akwambo Planning Committee seemed to be taking side for reasons best known to him.

When this reporter visited the town to ascertain the facts of the case, the said member of the planning committee who is only referred to as Ebusuapanyin by the townsfolk warned him not to report the case, as according to him, they are already in talks with the people to resolve the matter amicably at the police station.

His stand has infuriated the people of the town, including the Chiefs who are accusing him of trying to side with the perpetrators for his selfish interest.

Eradicate Lawlessness–Chief Tells President

The Chief of Gomoa Abassa in the Central Region and Nimfahen of the Gomoa Ajumako Trditional Area, Nana Okwadum Atta IX has told the president to make the fight against lawlessness his topmost priority and fight to eradicate the canker, which according to him, is become a menace in the country.

Nana Okwadum Atta who made the call in an interview with this reporter expressed worry why people who perpetrate acts of lawlessness are in most instances left to go scot-free under the watch of the current administration.

He said with his background as a professional lawyer, he expects Nana Addo to live up to the fight to ensure that those who engage in such unacceptable acts are severely punished to serve as deterrent to others.

Nana Okwadum Atta cited personal instances where some youth who threatened his life were reported and arrested by the police and charged to the court, but were later set free.

He pointed out that since then; the people upon their release have continued to threaten him persistently, with impunity.

He blamed the situation on the relaxation of the law in the country, which he said has bred high incidents of lawlessness in the country.
