A joint operation by personnel believed to be attached to the National Security apparatus has led to the closure of a residential facility at Tema Community 5 Railway Extension following allegations of prostitution and other suspected illegal activities.
The operation, which was carried out on Tuesday, July 21, 2025, was reportedly undertaken after months of complaints from residents regarding activities at the premises.
Residents who spoke to the media alleged that the facility had become a hub for prostitution, narcotics-related activities, and other unlawful conduct, attracting numerous visitors to the area at odd hours and disrupting the peace of the otherwise quiet residential community.
Several occupants of the premises, including a number of foreign nationals believed to be Nigerians, were reportedly evicted from the property following the expiration of an eviction notice, according to eyewitness accounts.
Residents have long expressed concerns about the activities of some occupants, alleging that the situation posed a threat to public safety and the moral fabric of the community.
Reports suggest the action was also prompted by a formal complaint from the property’s owner, identified as Mr. Emmanuel Afram, who is reportedly based abroad. According to sources, the property had been entrusted to a caretaker, identified as Mr. Ateh Larweteh, pending the owner’s return..
Residents have welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and necessary.
“We have complained about activities in the house for a long time to even our Assemblyman, but to no avail. We are relieved that authorities have finally responded,” one resident, who requested anonymity, said.
Speaking in a telephone interview, the property’s owner Mr Emmanuel Afram,. Who is currently in the country, expressed concern over the developments. He further alleged that previous attempts by him and his brother to have the occupants vacate the premises resulted in threats and an alleged assault on him, which he claims was orchestrated by the caretaker.
Authorities are currently seeking Mr. Larweteh to assist with ongoing investigations into the management and use of the property. His current whereabouts remain unknown, although security sources indicate that efforts are underway to locate him for questioning
