New Bolt data reveals that affordability continues to shape how Ghanaians use ride-hailing services, with more than 90% of all trips across Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi booked through the platform’s Standard and Economy categories.
The findings highlight the continued importance of affordable mobility for everyday travel, even as demand for more premium ride options continues to grow.
According to Bolt’s latest mobility insights, Comfort and Premium rides now account for approximately 5–7% of all trips across Ghana’s three largest cities. Since Bolt expanded driver availability within the Comfort category in March 2025, demand for Comfort rides has increased between three and five times, with Accra recording the highest adoption.
The trend suggests that while affordability remains the deciding factor for most daily journeys, more Ghanaians are choosing to upgrade for specific occasions where additional comfort is worth the higher fare. A Comfort trip typically costs around 1.5 times the price of a Standard ride.
Teddy Appa – Dankyi, Senior General Manager for Bolt Ghana, said the data reflects changing consumer behaviour rather than a shift away from affordability.
“Affordability remains at the heart of how most Ghanaians use ride-hailing. Whether it’s commuting to work, running errands or getting around the city, people are looking for transport that offers value for money. At the same time, we’re seeing more customers choose premium ride categories when the occasion calls for it, whether that’s travelling to the airport, attending an important meeting or simply wanting a little more comfort.“
He added that offering different ride categories allows customers to choose an option that best suits both their budget and their travel needs.
“No two journeys are the same. Some passengers will always prioritise affordability, while others are willing to spend a little more for extra comfort on certain trips. Our role is to provide that choice while continuing to make ride-hailing accessible to as many people as possible.“
The growing demand for Comfort rides has also created new earning opportunities for drivers operating higher-end vehicles. Bolt continues to expand the availability of its Comfort category, giving eligible vehicle owners another way to earn through the platform while offering passengers more choice.
As consumer preferences continue to evolve, Bolt says it will continue investing in products and services that balance affordability with convenience, ensuring passengers have access to transport options that suit different budgets, travel occasions and preferences.
