An educationist, Harun Nuhu Sanni has advised against the minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum against the proposal of moving Junior High School from Basic Education and placing it under Senior High School.
When the proposal is implemented, Senior High School would then be run on a six year period, duration, whiles Basic school would be up to class six. Since the announcement of the proposal by the education minister, stakeholders in the education sector have expressed divergent views on the move, with some arguing that the proposal amounts to toying with the country’s education.
As an educationist, Mr. Harun Nuhu Sanni has suggested that the proposal should have received broader national consultation with all stakeholders in the education sector to have shared their input before it is announced.
According to him, the proposal would amount to producing unrefined products into the tertiary institutions.
He pointed out that already, the country’s tertiary institutions are grappling with the problem of dismissing majority of students who have gained admission into them on the grounds of poor grades, and as such an attempt of moving Junior High School and placing it under Senior High School is a proposal with no future.
