Christians, Muslim Public Debate Unhealthy – Clergy

The recent public debate between the two main religious sects, Christains and Muslims has been described by the Swedru Area Head of the Voice of the Lord Evangelical Church, Pastor Samuel Temeng as an unhealthy development that could mar the already existing cordial relationship between the two sects.

Pastor Temeng who expressed worry about the development in an interview with Ghananews247.com said the development which is becoming a common norm has the tendency of breeding hatred between the two religious groups, if not checked.

The development has become a common practice where some members of the two religious groups mount public platforms to debate which of the two religions is the best, a situation Pastor Temeng noted could spark conflict between followers of the two religions, if not curtailed.

He later described the visit by the National Chief Imam, Dr. Usman Sheik Nuhu Shaributu to the Christ the King Parish Church in Accra to worship with Christians as a great challenge to all religious leaders to be tolerant with one another, irrespective of their religious background or denomination.

The feigning but religiously strong Chief Imam made the huge move last month which was hailed by people all over the world as part of his centenary birthday celebration.

He pointed out that the move by the National Chief Imam should serve as a wakeup call for all, particularly religious leaders that Ghanaians are one people with a common destiny, despite their religious, ethnic or tribal differences.

He described the Chief Imam as a God-sent leader who has continuously contributed to the peace of the country, and therefore called on all and sundry to emulate him.

He later advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used by any politician or political party, particularly at a time that the country is going into for their parochial interest and selfish gain.
