Deprivation Of Powers Of Chiefs Factor To Moral Decadence – Nana Odom Panin

A retired Banker and Chief of Aboso and also Guantuahen of Agona Nyakrom, Nana Odom Panin VII has called for the amendment of some aspects of the Constitution that deprive traditional rulers of their powers to re-instate the powers they use to have before the introduction of the democratic governance system.

Nana Odom Panin who expressed the concern in an interview with ghananews247.com revealed that since the adoption of the democratic governance system, there has been a steady rise of morale decadence in the society because of what he describes as its associated human rights, making people show no sign of respects to the elderly, including traditional authority, thereby increasing incidents of indiscipline, especially among the youth.

He said the situation has become a matter of grave concern to traditional rulers and has therefore called for something to be done about it.

According to him, the reinstatement of the powers of Chiefs will also help mediate in the numerous cases that are bedeviling the courts.

He however described as unacceptable the situation where lawyers participate in cases mediated by traditional authorizes, saying such lawyers turn to drag the cases for a long period of time and has therefore called for their disassociation from all cases mediated by traditional authority.
