The Member of Parliament for the Krachi East Constituency in the Oti Region, Nelson Kofi Daniel Djabab, has sponsored over 20 brilliant Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who obtained single-digit aggregates and gained admission to various Senior High Schools.
Each beneficiary received GHS2,000 in cash, together with mattresses, trunks, textbooks, exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers and other essential teaching and learning materials to support their transition into second-cycle education.
The intervention, according to the MP, forms part of his commitment to making education a major priority in the Krachi East Constituency.
Mr. Djabab said the initiative fulfils a promise he made during the 2024 election campaign to invest in education alongside other critical sectors, including health and community development.
He explained that quality education remains one of the surest ways of addressing the developmental challenges confronting the constituency, particularly the difficulty in attracting professionals such as doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers and other skilled personnel to the area.
According to him, investing in the education of children in Krachi East will help develop a pool of highly trained professionals who can eventually return to serve their communities and contribute to the development of the constituency and the country.
The MP urged the beneficiaries to take their education seriously, make good use of the support provided and work hard to become successful professionals in the future.
Support for persons with disabilities
The educational support was not limited to students who obtained single-digit aggregates.
Persons with disabilities across the constituency who qualified for admission to Senior High School were also included in the programme.
They received financial assistance and essential school materials to enable them to pursue their education without the financial burden that could prevent them from reporting to school.
The initiative brought together traditional rulers, Muslim and Christian leaders, political representatives, education authorities, parents and other stakeholders from across the constituency.
Education Directorate commends initiative
The Krachi East Municipal Director of Education commended the MP for the intervention, saying the achievement of single-digit aggregates by the beneficiaries reflects the commitment and hard work of teachers and other education stakeholders in the municipality.
He said the Education Directorate, together with teachers, remains committed to improving the quality of education and producing more academically successful students in the municipality.
The Director encouraged students to take their studies seriously, remain disciplined and make education a priority.
Beneficiaries grateful
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the MP, saying the support came at a critical time when many of them and their families were struggling to raise money for their Senior High School requirements.
They said the GHS2,000 cash, mattresses, trunks, books and other educational materials would enable them to report to their respective schools without further delay.
The students also appealed to their colleagues to take their education seriously, study hard and remain focused so they can achieve good results and benefit from similar opportunities in the future.
The initiative has been described by stakeholders as an important investment in the human capital of Krachi East, with expectations that continued support for education will help produce a new generation of professionals capable of contributing to the development of the constituency, the Oti Region and Ghana as a whole.
