Let’s Pay Attention To Girl Child Education – Activist

A Gender Activist and Feminist, Mrs. Vida Odoom has stressed the need to promote the education of the girl-child in the country.

Responding to a survey by a Non-Governmental Organization that indicates that more girls turn to drop out school, particularly at the Junior High School level as compared to their male counterparts, Ms. Odoom, who is also the Proprietress of Gyanwa Foundation Educational Complex for girls at Gomoa Afransi in the Gomoa Central District in the Central Region attributed the problem to teenage pregnancy, misplaced priority of the education of the girl-child by some parents, among other factors.

She disclosed that the old perception held by many that after all the place of the girl is the kitchen is a primitive mentality that has to be done away in this age and time.

She hinted that women have proven to be a force to reckon, as they have excelled in various fields of endeavor, including sciences, academics, engineering, business and finance, medicine, sports, politics and a host of others.

She has therefore appealed to such women who have climbed the ladder of success to avail themselves to the younger generation, to serve as role models to them.
