The Maritime and port industry, presents a lot of opportunities, and the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority leverages on this, to take in, and train as many national service personnel as they can, as contribution to the development of the youth of the country.
The Tema Port Marketing and Public Affairs Manager, Serwaa Opoku Fosu, who is also the National Service coordinator has indicated that National Service is taken very seriously by the organization and always makes it a point to contribute meaningfully to the holistic nurturing of the promising youth of Ghana.
“GPHA attaches a lot of importance to the national services as a scheme for mentorship. They have served and have been mentored. When they came to GPHA we have had about four separate programs for them, and they need to take them seriously as they get prepared for the job market,” she urged.
“We have had somebody take them through how they will put up their CVs and we also had entrepreneurship sessions for them. So these programs were done to build them up. So that, even when they go out and do not get jobs immediately, on their own they can start something meaningful,” she added.
