
The Presidential Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced both the special electoral college and main election congress, scheduled for Saturday, August 26, 2023 and Saturday, November 4, 2013 , respectfully.
The election will occur on Saturday, August 26, 2023 , across all 16 regional capitals and the party headquarters, Asylum Down. Voting will take place between 9:00am and 1:00pm. Delegates be required to present their party membership Identity (I.D.) Cards, National Voters I.D. Cards, or Ghana Cards for identification.
Ballot shall be counted and result announced immediately after the polls in the full glare of the public.
The committee, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has developed a comprehensive set of operational rules and regulations to guide them as well as all who are involved in this exercise, including the presidential Aspirants and the delegates.
To ensure utmost transparency and credibility, the elections committee made the album voter register available to all Aspirants on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. This provision allowed the Aspirants one week or through examination and verification of the album for necessary corrections.
Speaking at a press conference today Mr. Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah, said the committee has received twenty proxy applications , as of the submission deadline. Regrettably, one of the applicants has been called to eternity.
The voting centers are designated according to delegate categories. Voting rules emphasize free, fair, and confidential balloting. Action such as multiple voting, trading of votes , coercion , obstruction, and the display of marked ballots are prohibited at all voting centers.
The guidelines agreed upon by the aspirants will regulate the conduct of the Special Electoral College election to prune the 10 presidential aspirants to five and for the presidential primary set for November 4 to finally elect the flag bearer of the party for the 2024 general election.
Former speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye reassure the aspirants of the determination of the committee which is chaired by himself to organize a free, fair and transparent election in the Special Electoral College polls and the national congress.
On the issue of vote buying, Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee, Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye reminded the general public that vote buying is a criminal offence and they are not going to condoned the act on Saturday’s supper delegates Congress.
According to him, the law of the land are against the act of vote manipulation and the will make any individual caught in the act will be handed to the appropriate agency for interrogations.
He added that political parties cannot operate without accordance with Democratic principles of the 1992 constitution.
