The People of Gomoa Ekwamkrom in the Central Region are to celebrate this year’s Annual Akwambo Festival despite some family dispute as to who is to ascend the throne, following the death of the Chief of the town, Nana Ekwam about two years ago.
Pieces of information picked by this reporter indicate that the police in Swedru had to move in stop the installation of a self-styled Chief, following a complaint by some elders of the town.
According to the information, ascension to the throne has always be on rotation among the three royal gates, and as such there is no way another Chief should be enstooled from the same gate where the deceased chief was from.
When contacted, the Mankrado of the town, who is also the acting Regent, Nana Kofi Adu V confirmed the development, hinting that the case is currently before the Omanhen of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Nana Yamfo Krampah who is also the President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs for arbitration.
He however assured that despite the dispute, this year’s Annual Akwambo Festival of the people of the town which begins in August would be celebrated.
