Principal Elders of the Osu Wem Royal family in Prampram of the Greater Accra region, have unanimously stripped off all privileges allocated to Mr Stephen Oquaye Nortey, a former Asafoatse of the Ogyamla/Odotei gate, one of the three gates making up the Royal family.
In a statement released on the 10th of September 2022, Principal Elders of the Osu Wem Royal Family which is made up of three gates namely Ogyamla/Odotei, Ablade and Go/Narhmeko clans, bemoaned the disrespect exhibited by the disposed Asafoatse to the elders of the family.
According to them, the actions and inactions of Stephen Oquaye Nortey in recent times have brought the name of the family into disrepute, hitherto the need for the family to take such an action.
The statement further alleged that, Mr Stephen Oquaye Nortey an Economist and a staff of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), has in recent times sold lands belonging to the family, without any recourse to the elders of the family and as well failed to render any account to the family in that regard.
Aside the unapproved sale of the family lands, Stephen Oquaye Nortey has allegedly managed to register most of the Osuwem family lands in his name on the claim that he bought them from one Dr. Henry Applerh Nortey, a deceased kinsman of the family.
The statement further claimed the former whose show of opulence and gross disrespect, caused elders of his own gate to relieve him of his duty as an Asafoatse, can only claim the title of a counsellor for the Ogyamla/Odotei clan, since that title was bequeathed to him after the demise of his father.
Mr. Stephen Oquaye Nortey according to the statement, has been hiding behind a private lawyer to harass persons transacting business with the family to the extent of instructing such individuals to pay monies meant for the family into his personal bank account.
According to the elders of the Prampram Osu Wem family, Stephen Oquaye Nortey after an intensive meeting by the various heads of the 3 clans have unanimously stripped him of all his rights as an elder of the Osu Wem royal family and ceases to act on behalf of the family in any capacity, he might present himself in.
Based on this premise, the principal elders of the Osu Wem Royal family are asking the general public to desist from transacting any businesses with the said Stephen Oquaye Nortey or do so at their own risk.
