Tijaniya Muslim Council of Ghana Supreme Leader advances international Islamic relations and explores partnerships in education, humanitarian support, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — The Supreme Leader of the Tijaniya Muslim Council of Ghana, His Spiritual Eminence Sheikh Khalifa Ahmad AbulFaidi Maikano Jalloo (R.T.A.), has met Malaysian Prime Minister His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim during an official visit to Malaysia, marking a significant milestone in the Council’s international engagement.
The visit followed a special invitation from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), in collaboration with Awqaf Africa. During their encounter, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim exchanged greetings with the Sheikh and requested prayers for himself and the people of Malaysia, underscoring the importance of spiritual leadership in promoting peace, unity, and human welfare.
Participation in Global Qur’anic Competition
A major highlight of the visit was the Sheikh’s participation as Special Guest of Honour at the 66th Malaysia International Qur’an Recitation and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA), organised by JAKIM under the Malaysia MADANI initiative.
The prestigious international event brought together outstanding Qur’an reciters and memorizers from across the world to celebrate the recitation, memorisation, understanding, and practice of the Holy Qur’an.
The 66th MTHQA attracted 50 participants from 38 countries, comprising 34 men and 16 women, highlighting the competition’s international reach and its role in promoting Qur’anic scholarship and strengthening ties among Muslim communities.
Delegation and Cooperation Prospects
The Supreme Leader was accompanied by Alhaji Mutala Adam, his Personal Assistant and Public Relations Officer; Mr Ibrahim Mohammed Muhtari, Communication Director at the Office of His Spiritual Eminence; and Alhaji Ali Mummed Jawad Saeed, Governor of the Faida Western Region of Ghana, philanthropist, and businessman.
Upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur, the delegation was welcomed by Ghana’s Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia, Engr. Prof. Naail Dangigala, and the President of Awqaf Africa, Mr Ibrahim Abdul Mugis, before proceeding to the Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur City Centre. The programme also included a planned engagement with Ghana’s Head of Mission in Malaysia.
Beyond the official and religious engagements, the visit provided an opportunity to explore potential partnerships between the Tijaniya Muslim Council of Ghana and Malaysian Islamic and humanitarian institutions, including JAKIM, Awqaf Africa, MAIWP, MAPIM, and the Amal Foundation.
Proposed areas of collaboration include Islamic education, humanitarian assistance, youth development, vocational training, community agriculture, girls’ education, maternal health advocacy, and peacebuilding.
These prospective partnerships align with the Council’s commitment to combining Islamic propagation with practical interventions that improve livelihoods and support underserved communities in Ghana and across Africa. Formal agreements and specific project outcomes, however, remain subject to further discussions.
From Spiritual Diplomacy to Sustainable Development
The visit reflects the Council’s broader vision of strengthening international Islamic relations while pursuing practical solutions to social and economic challenges.
The meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is expected to feature in a documentary on the Supreme Leader’s Malaysian mission, which the Council anticipates launching approximately one week after his return to Ghana.
Following the successful conclusion of the visit, His Spiritual Eminence and his entourage returned safely to Ghana, expressing gratitude to Allah for the journey and the opportunities it presented.
Ultimately, the mission’s lasting significance will depend on the partnerships established and the tangible benefits they deliver. For the Tijaniya Muslim Council of Ghana, the visit represents an important opportunity to deepen relations between Ghana and Malaysia while advancing Islamic scholarship, humanitarian cooperation, peaceful coexistence, and sustainable development across Africa.
