We will be lagging behind if we don’t migrate to Digital……Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has said, if we don’t migrate to the digital economy we will lack behind because digitalization is the wheel to have a better economy in the 21st century.

Dr. Bawumia said this during an address to commission the Akua Brago ICT and digital hub in Akyem Oda.

According to him, the world is fast changing from analogue to digital and thus any country that does not migrate to digital will suffer the consequences.

The Vice President seized the occasion to rebut his critics who are questioning him on why he is advocating digitalization but not the economy as he is popularly known for. He iterated that the economy can not be fixed without digitalization. He said the economy will be strong if we have a strong digitalization platforms.
“If you don’t go digitalization, how can you fix the economy”? he quized.

He added that, it’s very important for our children to learn the digital technology that’s why they have built technological hubs which has all the digital tools and equipment in them.

Dr. Bawumia said if the country will develop it much depends on education, that is why the president, His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo and the NPP government has taken education as the top most priority.

He said the NPP government has introduce free SHS, Free Technical and Vocation Education and the Libraries they are building all over is a clear indication that they have education as a priority.

He said over 4000 students both male and female who do not have the means to further their education have benefited from the free SHS program and he is very happy about that.

Dr. Bawumia revealed that at first the male to female ratio were skewed towards the males but currently they are equal and benefiting from the scheme.

He encouraged the students to further their education when they complete junior high school because it is free and that it will help them.

Dr. Bawumia inspired the students especially the girls to learn very hard to become like Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful and the rest because it is through education that they have reached the level they are now.

He mentioned that, now people of Kotoku Traditional Area does not have any excuse again than to learn.

The Minister for communication and digitalization, Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful, who was the brainchild of the ultramodern edifice to glorify and honor her mother, Madam Akua Birago, who was celebrating her 80th birthday said she will not wait for her mother to die before she honor her.

As a native of Akim Oda, she said it’s always good to give back to society when the Lord bless you and for that reason she will not forget where she came from.

The communication minister said education is very important and it is the key that opens the door for development and today if she is a lawyer, a minister and also an MP, it is all because of education.

She shared her experience that, as she was growing what she saw was that education starts from home her mother did not joke with her studies and most of the time as a child she used studying of her books to dodge house chores. She said her determination to learn has contributed immensely to her success.

She was of the hope that the library will help the young ones to aquire that same traits which has helped her in the times past.

She advised the students to be serious with their learning because effective learning will never disappoint them.

She thanked all and sundry who contributed to the success of the ♎ construction especially the traditional authorities of Oda for releasing the land for the project.

Hon. Ursula said the location was strategically chosen to serve the five schools around the project. Apart from the school children the hub could serve other people on their research and distance learning.

She urged the people to take good care of the equipments for it to serve it purpose.

Akyem Oda Nkwantahene, Nana Gyenin Akenten, spoke on behalf of the Queen mother of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Nana Akua Asantewaa III. He thanked Dr. Bawumia for the kind of love he has for the people of Akyem Kotoku.

He applauded him for driving the digitalization agenda. According to him they have been schooled but didn’t know about digitalization but Dr. Bawumia has made them to understand what it is.

Nana Gyenin thanked Hon Ursula Owusu for building the ultramodern ICT hub for Kotokuman and also thanked the mother for giving birth to her and grooming her well to bring the project to Oda.
