Zoomlion Launches Fumigation, Disinfection Drive Across 14 MMDAs In Western Region

Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) has rolled out a comprehensive fumigation and disinfection exercise in flood-hit areas of the Western Region to curb potential outbreaks of cholera, typhoid and malaria following recent inundations.

The initiative, part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments, is to support a nationwide emergency response to flood-related health threats.

The operation kicked off simultaneously in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis (STMA) and the Effia-KwesimintsimMunicipality (EKMA), covering all 14 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Takoradi exercise, the Western Regional Manager of Zoomlion, Mr. Patrick Akorful, urged community members to support the company’s efforts.

“We ask the public to welcome our teams as they move through communities and facilities. This is a free emergency service, and our sole aim is to safeguard public health,” he said.
Residents in affected areas voiced relief as spraying teams targeted stagnant water sites and public spaces.

Madam Grace Mensah, a resident of Kwesimintsim, noted that the post-rain pools had drawn swarms of mosquitoes, raising fears for her children’s health. “Seeing the Zoomlion team spray around us brings great comfort. We truly appreciate this swift intervention,” she remarked.

Local authorities and health officials also lauded the move. The Assembly Member for Cassava Farm, Mr. Abraham Rex Kotobebi, praised Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the timely action, stating it aligns well with the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly’s ongoing environmental efforts. Mr. Benjamin Baah, Western Regional Environmental Health Analyst, called the exercise thorough and vital for strengthening the region’s preventive health framework holistically.
