IGP Yohuno Orders All-Out Crackdown After Deadly Berekum Chelsea Team Bus Robbery Attack

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has ordered an immediate, full-scale manhunt for armed robbers responsible for a deadly attack on the Bibiani–Goaso road that claimed the life of a Premier League footballer and left several others injured.

The attack occurred over the weekend when the team bus of Berekum Chelsea was ambushed by heavily armed men while returning from a league fixture against FC Samartex.

Reports indicate that the incident, which took place at Ahyiresu along the Bibiani–Goaso stretch, resulted in the tragic death of winger Dominic Frimpong, who was allegedly shot in the head by the attackers. Several other players sustained varying degrees of injuries, while some members of the team reportedly fled into nearby bushes during the attack and are yet to be accounted for.

The incident has plunged Ghana’s football fraternity into mourning, prompting swift intervention from the police administration.
The IGP is personally coordinating efforts with Regional Police Commanders in Ashanti, Western, and Western North to ensure the perpetrators are tracked down and brought to justice.

As part of the urgent response measures, the IGP has directed enhanced security protection for the team and intensified patrols along the Bibiani–Goaso road, which has increasingly become a security concern.

Sources within the Police Service indicate that Mr. Yohuno is expected to visit the crime scene and the bereaved family following an emergency meeting with the Police Management Board.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that no effort will be spared in restoring confidence and ensuring the safety of commuters along the affected corridor.
