Seventy-two women in education walked away with citations on Friday after a surprise recognition segment at the 12th International Women in Education Conference.
The event, held at the Edward Akuffo Addo Library in Accra, marked six years since the conference began. This year’s theme was “Another Level.”
Organised by Stella Gyimaah Larbi Ghana’s Most Outstanding Teacher 2022 and her team at Out International in partnership with the Adenta Municipal Education Directorate, the conference focused on equipping women educators for growth.
“Every activity today was designed to push women educators to go another level in their careers, classrooms, and communities,” Gyimaah Larbi said.
The morning opened with remarks from co-host Ms. Gifty Mussey and venue host Ms. Portia Agyeiwaa Appiah.
A panel discussion, “Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges: Journey to Another Level”, featured four educators: Ms. Rosetta Lagbo of Adenta Community Kindergarten, Ms. Boateng Elizabeth of La Salem Presby Basic School, basic school coordinator Ms. Perpetual Andoh, and Ms. Amtu Akumfi-Ameyaw, co-founder of On This Side.
Ms. Gifty Mussey, Adenta Municipal Director of Education, later spoke on “Moving to Another Level: A District Director’s Perspective.” Dr. Mrs. Mavis Leonards addressed mental health and personal presentation for teachers, followed by Q&A.
Five breakout sessions covered career elevation, starting a side business, book publishing, teaching with Canva, and mentorship via social media. Facilitators included Mrs. Akua Bema Anarfi, Mrs. Mavis Leonards, Jeremiah Seth Oduro, and Anthonia Senam.
Dr. Stella Agyenim-Boateng, Vice Chair of the Public Services Commission, delivered the keynote. Using her book _100 Career Nuggets – Keeping It Punchy_, she spoke on what success looks like at every stage of a career.
The event ended with the unveiling of the 4th edition of _Outstanding Teacher Magazine_, with Dr. Agyenim-Boateng on the cover, and “Another Level Vision Plan” for women educators.
