The Chief Executive Officer of the Agona West Municipal Assembly, Hon. Eric Gyamfi Odoom has instituted a 7-member Environmental Committee charged with the responsibility of marking the shops and stores of people, especially traders who refuse to participate in the National Sanitation Day Exercise.

He has warned that all such people, when identified, would be fined or sent to Court and prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.

The Committee, chaired by the Municipal Finance Officer, Mr. Bashiru Mohammed has assured that it will carry out its mandate effectively, without fear or favour.

The move was advocated by the Nimfahen and Regent of Agona Swedru, Nana Kweku Esieni V during last weekend’s exercise, following the low turnout by residents, particularly traders.

The Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Mike Dzodzodzi decried the low level of participation by the residents, particularly traders, who he said lock their stores and shops and refused to participate in the exercise, waiting for it to be completed so that they reopen to commence their business.

He stressed that the clean-up exercise should not be seen as the responsibility of the Assembly alone, but of all.

The Central Regional distributor for U-fresh range of products in Agona Swedru, Mr. Ken. Kum who supported the exercise, appealed to all owners of shops and stores in the Municipality to make it a point to participate in the exercise, which he said is just a monthly event.
