The Chief of Agona Asafo in the Central Region and Nimfahen of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Nana Yamfo Esuako XII has appealed to indigenes of the town, both home and abroad, as well as benevolent individuals and organizations to help support the construction of an ultra modern community center in the town.
According to him, about GH 100 million Cedis has already been spent on the one storey project which is currently at the footing level and is expected to be completed in two years.
When completed, the project will contain an office, lavatories, durbar and funeral grounds, a mini conference hall and a car park.
The chief made the appeal in an interview during the preparation to celebrate this year’s Akwambo festival of the town.
He noted that the essence of the festival, which is slated for the first Tuesday of September, is to pave way for the gods and ancestral spirits to come home and participate in the eating of yam which is called “Ehwie”.
He later debunked the assertion held by some that the celebration of festivals is “fetish”, noting that it rather identifies a group of people which, according to him, dates back to Bible history, and has therefore urged the youth to participate in the celebration of their festival.
Some of the activities earmarked for this year’s celebration of the festival includes float, quiz, marathon and cooking competitions, candle night, grand durbar of traditional rulers as well as non denominational service.
