A seamstress and interior decorator, Miss Sheila Koomson has taken up the challenge to lead the people of the Yaabem North electoral area in Agona Swedru in the Agona West Constituency of the Central Region as their Assembly member.
Her bold step which has won her the accolade Yaa Asantewaa, follows the rescinding decision of two male aspirants to contest for the position, as a result of alleged insults by the electorates. But since she took up the challenge, Miss Koomson is said to have gained the support of the grassroots, especially the youth, who have availed themselves in all the initiatives that she has embarked upon.
According to residents of her area, Miss Sheila Koomson has fixed numerous street lights and also engaged the youth to clear an old pitch which has been abandoned for a long period, to serve as a recreational center for the youth.
Speaking to Ghananews247.com on her ambitions, Miss Koomson disclosed that her electoral area faces a series of challenges such as poor drainage system, bad access roads, unavailability of public places of convenience, and a durbar ground, among others, and has therefore appealed to residents of the area, both within and outside to help her achieve her vision of making Yaabem North electoral area one of the best-developed areas in Agona Swedru, if not the best.
Though she did not consider herself as someone with future political ambition, she however noted that her vision is to serve the people through the Assembly.
