CODEO Expands Post-Election Monitoring Nationwide to Safeguard Democracy

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has launched a nationwide post-election observation exercise to monitor developments following Ghana’s recent general elections.

This initiative, which runs from December 22, 2024, to January 23, 2025, aims to promote transparency, accountability, and stability during the post-election period.

CODEO has deployed 20 trained observers across the country to closely monitor activities related to the declaration of parliamentary results, particularly in areas facing disputes.

The observers will focus on the conduct of key stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission (EC), political parties, the judiciary, security agencies, and civil society organizations (CSOs).

With Ghana set to inaugurate its President-elect on January 7, 2025, CODEO’s observers will assess adherence to constitutional processes and ensure that the electoral environment remains peaceful.

The monitoring will also cover electoral disputes and actions by political actors to ensure accountability and lawful resolutions.

In a statement, Mr. Albert Arhin, National Coordinator of CODEO, emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and resolving disputes through legitimate means.

“We urge all stakeholders to act responsibly, respect constitutional procedures, and avoid actions that could threaten national peace and stability,” he stated.

CODEO reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely updates from its observation activities to keep the public informed and engaged.

The Coalition’s post-election observation forms part of its broader effort to support Ghana’s democratic growth, ensuring smooth transitions of power and the integrity of electoral processes.
