Alleged bodyguard of the Awutu Senya East Constituency Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Stephen Ofosu Agyare, is reportedly under police investigation over allegations that he threatened the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Awutu Senya East, Hon. Seth Sabah Serwornoo-Banini.
Sources close to the matter told Journalists that the suspect, identified as Prosper Biggy, allegedly made the death threat during a telephone conversation with the MCE, prompting the incident to be reported to the Ghana Police Service.
According to the source, the suspect allegedly accused the MCE of refusing to grant them a hearing because he knew he was the bodyguard of the constituency chairman. The source further claimed that Prosper Biggy allegedly warned the MCE that he would “deal with him mercilessly.”
The source said the police have treated the complaint with urgency due to the seriousness of the alleged threat and have commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether any criminal offence has been committed.
As part of security measures, Hon. Seth Sabah Serwornoo-Banini has reportedly been placed under police protection while investigations continue, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The alleged incident has heightened concerns among residents and party supporters, particularly at a time when political tensions within the Awutu Senya East Constituency have attracted public attention.
Sources further claimed that some constituents are questioning why the national leadership of the NDC has not intervened to address the recurring tensions involving the constituency chairman.
According to the source, the actions of the constituency chairman are affecting the image of the party in the constituency and risk undermining the goodwill the NDC built ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The source also recalled an earlier incident before the 2024 general election, when Mr. Stephen Ofosu Agyare allegedly threatened Hon. Serwornoo-Banini after he appeared on Pink FM to deny claims from the chairman’s camp that supporters of Member of Parliament Hon. Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor had attempted to attack the chairman during a campaign walk.
The MCE reportedly dismissed those allegations during the radio interview, insisting that no such incident had occurred.
The source further alleged that Prosper Biggy is known within the constituency for carrying firearms and other weapons and has previously been associated with acts of violence.
Police are expected to invite the complainant, the suspect and other persons with relevant information to assist with the ongoing investigations.
Efforts to obtain comments from Mr. Stephen Ofosu Agyare and the suspect were unsuccessful before publication. The story will be updated if their responses are received.
