Lack of proper parental care and peer pressure have been identified as two of the major causes of high intake of drugs among the youth in recent times.
The situation has become a major cause of concern to the nation, as it poses serious health and security threats to society. Statistics has shown that one out of every six youth, even including young girls is into the use and abuse of one form of drug or another.
This, the aspiring Assembly member for the Owani, Dasuenim electoral area in Agona Swedru in the Agona West Constituency in the Central Region, Mr. Raymond Asare (popularly known as Kwesi Macho) has vowed to fight against when given the nod as the Assembly member.
As a youth himself, Mr. Raymond Asare disclosed in an interview that he has already engaged some of the youth who are into drugs and has found out that some of them are from good homes, but were led into drug abuse by friends. He noted that as a result of his findings, he will factor and promote proper parental care into his agenda as an Assembly member.
He also mentioned support for women in trading, sanitation, education and sports, especially among the youth as some of his priority ambitions when erected.
Though not voted into office yet, Mr. Raymond Asare who the residents in the area describe as a unifier, is said to have fixed over one hundred and twenty street lights across the four communities in the area, and also supported some youth, particularly girls in the training and learning of vocational skills.
