The General Overseer of the Men of Faith House of Prayer for All Nations (MOFAN), Pastor Emmanuel Otabil has said some bills brought before Parliament for debate and passage into law does not deserve to be brought to the House under any circumstance, because it is a waste of time on the country and constitutes a waste of the taxpayer’s money.
He cited the anti- LGBTQ+ and the cultivation of cannabis bill for exportation purposes as issues that should not have been sent to Parliament at all for any consideration.
On the issue of LGBTQ+, he pointed out that it is totally unacceptable in the Ghanaian society and alien to Africa’s cultural practices norms, and therefore the President should have stamped his authority and rejected it in no uncertain terms, without recourse to Parliament to waste the House’s precious time, which he said, could have been used to discuss issues of national importance.
Again, on the law on the cultivation of cannabis, Pastor Otabil said the move is going to worsen the problem of the abuse of the substance, especially by the youth, which the country is already currently grappling with, if care is not taken.
He stressed that if the law is for economic purposes, then the government should shift its attention to those ” philanthropist” who claim to offer free money on television for financial support, rather than the cultivation of cannabis for export.
