The Chief Of Nkubeaseman (Mahodwe) in Agona Swedru and Gyaasehen of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Nana Kwame Donkor II has bemoaned the bad name currently earned by the town as a result of cyber fraud activities (popularity referred to as SAKAWA) and its associated ritual practices among the youth in the area.
Speaking in an interview with GhanaNews, Nana Kwame Donkor said the practice has carved a bad image for the town, but assured that as traditional authorities, they are working around the clock to ensure that the town regains its past glory as a trading hub.
As a transit point because of its location, Agona Swedru even attracted international companies who established their outfits in the town.
These include G.B. Olivant, Peterson Zochonics (P.Z.) from Germany, Swiss African Company (S.A.T.), United Africa Company (U.A.C.) Texas Oil Company (TEXACO) from America and the Ghana National Trading Company (G.N.T.C.) among others.
Though the town is still recognize as a business center, with over five hundred thousand people transiting every day, yet the bad name it has earned as a result of the so-called SAKAWA activities continues to remain a major problem to the traditional authorities who have vowed tooth and nail to fight it for the town to regain its past glory.
