The Nimfahen and Regent of Agona Swedru, Nana Kweku Esieni V has taken a strong stand against any attempt to pass a pro-Lesbian, Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBTQ) bill into law in the country, warning that any such attempt will be met with the full wrath of traditional rulers.
He said, as custodians of the land protectors of culture and tradition, traditional rulers will not sit aloof and allow any foreign culture alien to Africans to be imposed on the people.
He has therefore warned those Members of Parliament pushing for the bill to be passed into law to make the practice of same-sex marriage acceptable in the country to be mindful of their thoughts, as that will be met with the vengeance of the masses, he stressed.
Nana Kweku Esieni who expressed his frustration over the issue in an interview with Ghananews247.com questioned why the so-called civilized countries who are trying to force the practice of same-sex marriage on Africans describe the practice of polygamy, where a has the power to marry more than one wife, which was even approved by God, as wrong, yet they see the practice of same-sex marriage as right.
He describes the position as the worse and highest form of hypocrisy and has called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to rise up against the practice. “Our political leaders should stop going spoon in cup begging from the so-called developed countries for aid, as according to him, Africa has an abundance of natural resources that can feed the whole world for over five hundred years, if those resources are refined on the African continent” he lamented.
Though there has been a persistent public outcry against the passage of the bill, some say a majority of the traditional rulers who hold the fort to the promotion and protection of cultural practices and norms are silent on the matter, giving politicians a lean way to operate without any check.
