Easter, according to Christianity, is a period when Christians converge to remember and celebrate the life of Jesus Christ from His arrest, trial, crucifixion (death) on the cross, and His resurrection after three days.
Though the celebration of the event is an old age practice dating back to two thousand B.C. some, including even Christians, have challenged the celebration of the event, saying it has no basis in the Bible.
According to those with this school of thought, Christians see the event as a period for merry-making where they go to the beaches and clubs to have fun. According to them, there is no way someone will make merry when he or she loses a loved one, let alone somebody’ who laid down his life to save you.
Yet, the other school of thought is also of the opinion that once Christ came and died and was resurrected to save mankind, it is enough to celebrate, irrespective of what one thinks. One of the people with this school of thought is the Agona Swedru minister in charge of the Samaria Miracle Church, Pastor Johnson Dzeameshie.
According to him, the event of Easter calls for celebration under any circumstance, considering the redemption offered by Jesus Christ by sacrificing His life on the cross. He argued that going outdoors such as beaches and parks to celebrate the event does not make it a sin, but the motive behind the outing. According to him, some churches organize outdoor programmes for their congregation to admire the beauty or God’s creation.
