Lack Of Jobs Contributory Factor To Youth Delinquency – Aspiring Assembly Member reveals

Lack of jobs has been identified as one of the major contributory factors to youth delinquency in the country, contributing to over seventy-five percent of all cases of waywardness among the youth.

An aspiring Assembly member for the Abora electoral area in Agona Nyakrom in the Agona West Constituency of the Central Region, Isaac Kobina Okum who made the observation in an interview with this medium said over ninety percent of the youth in the town have at least Senior High School level education, but lack of job opportunities has forced many of them to take to drugs, a situation he described as unacceptable in any serious country..

According to him, the situation is worrying, thus compelling him to contest for the position as the Assembly member for the area, to champion the course of the youth at the local government level.

He also mentioned poor sanitation such as defecation in the Akora River by some of the residents of the town, as it serves as the only source of water used for all household activities anytime there is a cut in supply from the Ghana Water Company.

He also mentioned the lack of availability of a refuse dumping site in the town, noting that as a result of the situation, the residents have resorted to throwing away garbage haphazardly anywhere they find, thereby posing serious health risks in case of an outbreak of disease.

He disclosed that he is already in touch with some individuals and opinion leaders in the town, as well as the traditional authorities to find a lasting solution to the problem, and has therefore called on indigenes from the town, both home and abroad, as well as benevolent organizations to assist his bid to make Agona Nyakrom a befitting town to live in.
